Exactly one year ago today I had a dream that I was sitting at a table with a solid white tablecloth. On the table was a microphone as if I were at a press conference. I confidently spoke into the microphone to announce that Eric and I were expecting nine blessings.
Now, when I woke up I didn’t know what this meant. My first irrational thought was babies, but I realized that was probably not it! I knew whatever the Lord would want to bless us with would be great. I began to imagine all of these wonderful things.
A few days after the dream, the Holy Spirit led me to a scripture I had written in my journal a couple of weeks before:
There are nine–yes exactly nine–ways that Jesus says we can be blessed in Matthew 5:3-11. All of these blessings are spiritual and the result of a state of our heart.
3 Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places in Christ, 4 just as He chose us in Him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and without blame before Him in love, 5 having predestined us to adoption as sons by Jesus Christ to Himself, according to the good pleasure of His will, 6 to the praise of the glory of His grace, by which He [amade us accepted in the Beloved.
He has blessed us with EVERY spiritual blessing in the heavenly places in Christ! This is profound in that these blessings are eternal and far outweigh any material thing we could ever have on this earth.
I think many of us (including me) always think of blessings as material things, but the material things of this earth are temporal. Jesus and His kingdom are eternal.
2 Corinthians 4:18 — ” For our light affliction, which is but for a moment, is working for us a far more exceeding and eternal weight of glory, while we do not look at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen. For the things which are seen are temporary, but the things which are not seen are eternal.
That, however, is not to say that He has not blessed us in material ways–because He certainly has and does continually! Our Heavenly Father delights in meeting our needs just as earthly parents provide the needs of their children. Regardless of whether or not we drive the car we want or live in the house of our dreams, we are truly blessed because of all that Jesus Christ has endowed upon us through His precious blood! I encourage you to begin to look at blessings in a new way!
** I am coming back to edit this post after publishing. I was praying after posting, and the Lord reminded me that over this last year, that I received a raise at work as well as a stipend that was paid out in NINE installments. The dream and blessings were two fold. I am so incredibly grateful for all of the abundant blessings–spiritual and material. I don’t ever want to downplay anything the Lord has done for me as they are multi-fold and always magnificent! Praise the Lord from whom all blessings flow!
