For You Are with Me

Psalm 23 is a beautiful picture of what a loving Shepherd Jesus is to us. Try to imagine how refreshing this walk with the Lord is in verses 1-3.

Psalm 23:1-3 The Lord is my shepherd;
I shall not want.
He makes me to lie down in green pastures;
He leads me beside the still waters.
He restores my soul;
He leads me in the paths of righteousness
For His name’s sake.

If we allow Him to lead us, He will walk with us to restore us and give us rest. I believe these times of rest and restoration are to prepare and strengthen us for the valleys that David speaks of in verse 4.

Psalm 23:4 Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death,
I will fear no evil;
For You are with me;
Your rod and Your staff, they comfort me.

Here in verse 4 David speaks of those dark and hard times we face in this walk. What stands out most here is how David changes from talking about the Lord (saying “He”) to talking to Him (saying “You”). Although we may dislike the hard times, it is often during these times that we are driven to seek the Lord and develop a deeper relationship with Him. The valleys cause us to move from talking about Him to talking to Him! As hard as the valleys may be, there is a glorious outcome when we walk through them with our loving Shepherd.

Psalm 23:5-6
You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies;
You anoint my head with oil;
My cup runs over.
Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me
All the days of my life;
And I will
dwell in the house of the Lord

Walking with Jesus isn’t always easy, but He is always with us! SURELY, goodness and mercy shall follow you and me all the days of our lives, and we shall dwell in the house of the Lord FOREVER! Amen!
